SENSORY TRAIL PROJECT
Help us reach our goal!
The Friends of Cook Forest have taken on a new project - turning the 0.2 mile Paved Trail into a "Sensory Trail". This ADA-accessible trail loop winds through a mature hardwood forest. It can be reached via the water tower access road near the entrance of the Sawmill Center for the Arts.
Plans include adding a guide rope the length of the trail, braille/raised letter signage, frequent benches for resting, repairing & sealing the pavement, and leveling the sides with a natural crushed stone. You can help us achieve our goal with your donation. Read our latest newsletter article about the project here.
To donate by check/money order, make payable to PPFF with "Sensory Trail project" on the memo line & mail to:

CROSSING ONE BRIDGE AT A TIME CAMPAIGN
The Longfellow Trail to the Forest Cathedral is one of Cook Forest State Park's iconic features and the bridges covering Tom's Run take thousands of visitors each year across the stream. Now the bridge at Pavilion #1 has been closed due to rust pockets eroding the steel i-beams that support the structure. It must be replaced. Other bridges over this stream will suffer the same fate and must also be replaced. Your dollars in support of this campaign will go directly to a fund to bring these crossings back to life. You may donate online here. If you would prefer to mail a check/money order for this project, please make payable to PPFF with "bridge replacement project" on the memo line and mail to: Friends of Cook Forest PO Box 31 Cooksburg, PA 16217 |
Cathedral: The Fight to Save the Ancient Hemlocks of Cook Forest
The Friends Group recently purchased the rights to the documentary “Cathedral: The Fight to Save the Ancient Hemlocks of Cook Forest” so it may continue to be viewed and continue to raise money for the fight against the hemlock woolly adelgid.
We've designed and published rack cards to inform the public of this invasive species that has already killed almost all of the Eastern Hemlocks in the Shenandoah and Great Smokey Mountains. These informational cards are a continuing project for the Friends Group.
